Andrew Freund has a long history with the game of soccer. From the age of nine Freund has played at many different levels, including professional periods in the National (Pre A-League) and Premier Leagues with South Melbourne, Croydon City and Albion as a striker. Throughout his career, Freund was fortunate enough to be coached or taught by some of the game's greats. These included:
Freund is accredited with the Football Federation of Australia as a qualified soccer coach, a member of the Football Federation Victoria Coaches Association, has completed the Australian Red Cross First Aid Training Course and passed the Victorian Government's Working with Children Check. In November 2008 he lived at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra for two weeks attending a Football Federation Australia (FFA) Advanced Coaching Course and is now an Accredited 'C' Licence Coach. In 2011 he attended FFA State Coaching Conferences in Brisbane and Canberra. Freund was also invited to complete the 'Inclusion Training and Multicultural Awareness Workshop' run by the Football Federation of Victoria (FFV). This training concentrated on issues ranging from working with newly arrived and refugee groups, coaching females and indigenous groups to coaching people with disabilities. Freund also has a sports administration background serving as Executive Director of Maccabi Victoria Incorporated, a roof body sporting organisation with over 4,000 members (1999 to 2000 inclusive). A keen sportsman and competitor, Freund also played Australian Rules Football, winning a Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) Competition Goal Kicking Award as well as a Club Best & Fairest Award with Ajax Football Club. In March 2006 Freund was inducted in to the Victorian Jewish Sporting Hall of Fame in recognition of his sporting achievements and contribution to the professional growth of the Maccabi organisation. Freund was Head Coach of State League soccer club North Caulfield FC from 2008 - 2012. He is currently the Director of Football. |
